Landmark Wins Engineering Excellence CONCEPTOR AWARD
Sallie Mae Stormwater Pond Combines Form + Function to Yield Elegance

New Castle, DE, May 20, 2015 New Castle, Delaware, Landmark Science & Engineering is pleased to announce that it received a national "Recognition Award" for Engineering Excellance for the Sallie Mae Stormwater Pond Retrofit project at the prestigious 2015 ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards Gala held in Washington, D.C. on April 21, 2015.

New Castle, DE, March 2, 2015 New Castle, Delaware, Landmark Science & Engineering received the "Conceptor Award," the second highest award in the prestigious 2015 Engineering Excellence Awards competition sponsored annually by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Delaware and awarded in February at the Engineer's Week banquet sponsored by Delaware Engineering Society.

The project was completed for Sallie Mae, Inc., a national firm that relocated its headquarters to Newark from Reston, Va. in 2013 to enjoy a great employee workforce, with high‐visibility along I‐95. A large stormwater pond that would also provide aesthetic and recreational amenities for the employees and a dynamic image for the business was envisioned by Jordan Honeyman Landscape Architecture.

This challenging project required innovative engineering solutions to manage storm water runoff during construction of the new 1.42‐acre, two‐tiered pond with a 96‐foot waterfall, boardwalk, walkways with exercise stations, and picnic areas in the same location as the existing wet pond. The confined site, surrounded by office building, parking and I‐95 added to the complexity. Methods were devised to remove the existing wet pond from service during construction, while continuing to meet or exceed all of the stringent local, state and federal drainage, stormwater and water quality regulations.

"Keith Rudy, director of our Water Resources/Engineering division and "Engineer of Record" for this important and high‐profile project, is commended for a great job in satisfying the client and their CM, Nason Construction, in facilitating construction of this pond retrofit set in a very challenging environment" said Landmark's President Ted C. Williams, P.E, FACEC, a past Chairman of ACEC.
